Day 76 in Japan - Friday Friday!

School - good classes. Long afternoon of planning and exam preparation for the mid-terms which start next week. After school, I had ESS club - we played charades. It was excellent fun! One of the shy boys was a complete natural at acting, and made a huge shopping scenario (complete with a hold up, which he heroically thwarted, a bicycle ride home, and putting all the groceries away) to convey the word "bag". Even through we were all having a great time, I had to cut it short to practise some of the students speeches - it was a long afternoon, and I didn't get to leave until after 6 pm.

I met Sam at the CO-OP to pick up ingredients for our special cooking night. And beer. And peach and orange cocktail and chu-hai. And snacks. It was a good shopping trip, actually.

It POURED rain on us on our way home, so we took turns running and cycling (Sam had forgotten his bike, so we had one bike, four bags of shopping and my school bag between us) with me abandoning my thongs mid-run, trying to double on the bike (and failing miserably), and generally trying to keep our electronics dry and our frozens frozen. It was a fun and frantic trip back, and we did end up thoroughly soaked.

Our night was mostly spent preparing our meal - an ONIGIRI FEAST! Once we figured out earlier this week that we could make onigiri fairly easily, we started plotting a whole meal of rice-based deliciousness. And tonight was the night. We filled them with chicken, tuna, pork, veggies and love. Ha. They were great, and we thought we would have HEAPS of extra rice, but we ended up using it all easily. We had four-and-a-half rice balls each, which is REALLY FILLING, particularly when you do the Japanese thing, and only drink water once you finish the meal. Bloat.

OH! NIGIRI!
More pictures of our dinner.
Then watched Treasure Planet (very Japanese), and joined in via Skype to a party at Mum and Dad's place. Our onigiri were fantastic but the pizzas that we could see were making us a little jealous. The addition of ginger, wasabi and mayonnaise fixed that :)

Food Highlight of the Day: The best onigiri that we made was filled with karaage (fried chicken), pickled ginger, a little wasabi and mayonnaise.
