Day 102 in Japan - National Culture Day

TODAY WAS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY! It is National Culture Day in Japan, and Sam and I celebrated Australian culture by sleeping in and bludging for an extra hour this morning. Ahhh, national pride.

When we finally did get up, we decided to go and study in the park with a picnic brunch. We headed to the supermarket for some sandwiches and some snacks and drinks, and then headed down to the park. We met a bunch of 7-12 year old kids who helped us study Kanji in return for chocolate. They were brilliant - they knew all of the Kanji cards that we had with us, and were very enthusiastic about helping us. After study, we headed home to prepare for Mum and Dad visit staring on Friday - last bits of washing, housecleaning etc. Then I started having a bath, but felt guilty about all of the snacking today, so I ended up aborting the bath about 1 minute in to go for a run.

Study in the Park with Sam.
Then, Kobe for a great dinner with Arjan, Jodie, Rob, Graeme and Graeme's friend (who was allegedy Irish, but sounded 100% American) - we went to a real pizza restaurant, and then a fantastic bar called Bar Clap. Which is really funny when you consider than Japan doesn't really have an "L", but more of a "R/L" hybrid, and are listening to someone talking to a Japanese friend on the phone, urging them to come to "Bar Crappu". HA! It was a brilliant little bar, though - I will be going back there in the future.

Food Highlight of the Day: Salami pizza in Sannomiya.
