Big in Singapore

Warning... whingey post ahead.

Last week, I made the mistake of trying to go clothes shopping. I knew it was unlikely that I'd find much to fit me in Singapore, so I thought I'd try to Japan trick - go to UNIQLO where there are some foreigner-sized clothes.
You know... clothes to fit these guys
To cut a long and somewhat teary story short... no. There are no clothes that even come close to fitting. It made me a bit sad to once again be googling "Larger women's clothes stores", so instead I started to read about sizes of people around the world. The 2012 average weight of an American is 81.9 kg (3rd heaviest in world), an average Australian is 77.4 kg (6th heaviest in world), Japan is 59 kg (137th), and Singapore is 58.9 kg (139th). The global average is 62.0 kg, and the lightest country in the world is Bangladesh at 49.6 kg. That data is for males and females combined, and is all from here.

So once again, I'm in a country where I'm way over the national average. The weird thing is that here everyone seems to be really interested in food - it really does seem to be the national pastime. In Japan, it was easy to understand how the women were so tiny, as so many of them eat very little, but here everyone is tucking into the fried meats and carbs! I can only assume lots of activity and tiny-person genes are important.

So I'm trying to ramp up the activity in order to be able to eat all of the new foods I like. Now I just need to find somewhere that I can buy some new shirts when I sweat through all my current ones. And a new bike seat, because I can't ride another kilometer on that thing without my arse falling off... although then I might fit into those UNIQLO pants...
